I wanted to create something a little different with this song. It may be the most atmospheric one I've completed thus far. Sonically, the piece was heavily influenced by Steve Vai, Opeth, and Porcupine Tree. Conceptually, the film 2001: A Space Odyssey would seemingly be the source of the musical subject matter. This was not necessarily the case. Although the cryptic nature of the monoliths and some of the music within the film fueled many of the ideas, the larger theme revolves around my own emotions when considering such a topic (monoliths). I find the very idea of the iconic monolith to be quite fascinating, powerful, and partially disturbing. The music is meant to reflect this and I'm now very happy with the end result.
