about

For this piece I tried to experiment in various ways, as I attempted to include many different influences. I was happy to be able to get some classical guitar and jazz fusion styles in the tune.

The title is mostly in reference to a recurring theme within the show The X-Files (time to nerd out a bit). The character Dana Scully plays the role of a skeptic to the various paranormal phenomena she and Fox Mulder encounter. She is a person of science, almost always trying to methodically validate the seemingly supernatural and inconceivable. Yet, at the same time she was raised in a religious setting that places a certain hold on her scientific nature. It is only when confronted with this dilemma of two different faiths that she waivers.

Another underlying meaning behind this piece is belief in a more general manner. Though this does not necessarily reflect my personal views, I have found that many people are quick to denounce the existence of a god of any kind. Yet, the word "god" can have many definitions. It really can be an incredibly abstract concept that should be given delicate consideration.

Recorded using an Ibanez RG1570, Ibanez AEL20E, Cordoba C5, and Jackson David Ellefson CBXV bass.
